You're a rich girl, and you've gone too far
'Cause you know it don't matter anyway
You can rely on the old man's money
You can rely on the old man's money
It's a bitch, girl, but it's gone too far
'Cause you know it don't matter anyway
Say money but it won't get you too far
Get you too far

Rich Girl - Hall & Oates

Mary Bouchard née Cromwell has led what she herself has described 'a life of comfortable privilege'. She has never wanted for anything, with two parents in a comfortably civil relationship and a younger sister only mildly precocious the house was always mostly pleasant to be in. Their troubles were the kind found only amongst other WASP families though the Cromwells always made sure to be as respectable in the public eye as possible. If the only thing one could maintain was a pristine social image, so be it. School was simply a way to better oneself, not as an actual requirement and a career beyond the morays of a high society socialite was never anything she needed to trouble herself with. It was why getting engaged to a lower middle-class Catholic in prelaw through everything for a loop.

Eliot was the first person that Mary had ever met that made her feel truly Alive. He was passionate, brilliant, funny, and outwardly affectionate in a way that was so beyond foreign for her. Beyond just his joie de vivre, it was as if Eliot brought to her life a kind of light that once known Mary could never go back. The banal tepid mediocrity of the other more 'appropriate' romantic matches that her mother attempted to assuage her with paled in comparison and her parents eventually gave in to the knowledge that their daughter would become not only the lawyer's wife but convert to catholicism to do so.

As the years went by, both good and the bad came into her life. And outside of the Troubles things were, as far as Mary thought, good. It wasn't until her son's incarceration that things took a turn for the worse. Doubling down after his disappearance, because no amount of the lie she was fed rang anything other than false. Currently Mary and Eliot have traveled cross-country looking for Oliver to try and fix everything that shattered beyond her control.

It is unknown whether or not Mary recalls the events of the Apocalypse. During the quarantine and major Masquerade breach at the charity event co-hosted by Cardinal Valdis and Tobias Wren, Mary and her husband Eliot were witness to the toast that infected all those who took part with the Wyrm and the subsequent cleansing of the fire suppression system in the basement boiler room.

It was hinted at that Mary and Oliver are somehow connected through familial ties to both Josiah and therefore also Gwendolyn.
